Ida Bidson knows it's not going to be easy to make her dream of becoming a teacher come true. A 14-year old living in the Colorado mountains in 1925, she has to overcome the expectations of people like the head of the local school board, who thinks girls only need to take care of their chores and find a good husband. When the board closes the town's one room school, threatening to keep Ida from finishing 8th grade and moving on to high school, it looks like her dream will never come true. Then Ida and her classmates come up with a plan for a secret school - with Ida as their teacher.
