Description:

This version of The Eye of Argon duplicates, to as far as is practicable, and perhaps to something beyond that point, the precise layout of the original as published on pages 27-49 of Osfan 10, the August 21, 1970 edition of the monthly publication of The Ozark Science Fiction Association. While it is entirely possible that I have not achieved perfection, my goal was to create a version that presented, word for word, line for line, page for page, the exact contents of the semi-mythical original. I have sought to include every misplaced hyphen, every scratched-out error, and every crudely-scrawled drawing. I have set the text in a typewriter font that bears a close family resemblance to the original. I have, within limits, and with some effort at judgment calls, faded out the words and letters that are faintest in the original. I have inserted flying caps, squeezed-in letters, and other artifacts of the original. I have not attempted to position the page elements exactly as they were on the original pages, but instead have sought to place them correctly relative to each other. My intent was to provide a standardized text suitable for competitive readings of the text. Using this Somewhat Official Competitive Reading Text, readers around the world will face the same challenges as each other -- and as the readers of the original fanzine.
