Hypatia, or Tia for short, is a very precocious 7 year old who lives with her archaeologist parents on an alien planet. She contracts a disease which leaves her paralyzed. She chooses to become a shellperson –essentially a brain linked to machinery. In her case the machinery is a spaceship which becomes her body. She is joined by a “brawn,” an able bodied person who lives with her in the spaceship. She adjusts to this life and has several adventures exploring space and catching criminals.
