When Horatio Gaph, sports hero to his district and lo-pry everywhere, learns that not only is the story very real, but that he is a pure descendent of those lost Children, he faces a choice that will affect the fates of two worlds: the one in which he lives, where The United States has been replaced by totalitarian rule, where he alone can raise his district our of poverty and into a better life. The other, an unseen world where unknown millions are threatened by a growing shadow of evil. Their only hope is the return of the fabled Children of Hamelin.
